This week I was traveling. So, although I do not usually have a chance to read USA Today, I did this week and came across a reflective article. It seemed to me worth sharing as a thought provoking piece for Easter.

Raised as a Christian I do not feel that people are losing a sense of right and wrong.
ReplyDeleteI do share the view of many that a religion that is based on a view that we start out as sinners who must be "saved" by the one and only enlightened being or go to hell does not make sense.
Further, to take that premise, then "die for our sins" when we know we are capable of great good and great evil - and when we did not ask the the symbolic gesture on our behalf -seems more like the act of a controlling parent who is not at ease with himself/herself than a parent who is conscious of his inherently good and evil potential - and who seeks to look first to love, act in love, seek to support the loving nature of others.
But I do go on, as others do who were raised as Christians. My parents constancy of love has meant more to me than their Christianity.
I do believe in a higher being in and of us. I feel grateful for the love in and around us and, in my own halting, human way seek to support and praise the presence of love found everyday.
Well, I guess that article struck a chord .. thanks for the thoughtful post.

Kare -- Thanks for open and honest sharing. There is a lot more to life than membership marketing, so it is nice to take a break and discuss bigger issues. What I could relate to from the article was the need for help from outside of myself. I see my weaknesses and my failings and look for help from God. Tony
